AI Video Camera Not Following the Reference? Troubleshoot Paths and Cuts
Compare framing, paths, occlusion, and cut timing against 3D previs, then keep a one-variable-at-a-time record of generation differences.
CraftWorld · Updated
When AI video misses a move, compare it with the reference at the same time. Fix problems already present in previs before diagnosing a model’s interpretation. Avoid changing the reference, prompt, and model together.
Locate the symptom
| Symptom | Check previs first | Then check generation |
|---|---|---|
| Subject obscured | Foreground occlusion through the move | Unexpected new objects |
| Dolly becomes zoom | Actual camera translation | Missing foreground/background perspective changes |
| Orbit missed | Endpoints and viewing direction | Camera staying outside the intended arc |
| Cut missed | Camera switch on both sides of the cut | Switch at the matching output time |
| Ending too close | Final keyframe and hold | Subject size versus the reference |
A recorded failure at the five-second cut
In the pavilion record, H3 missed the interior cut, while Seedance 2.5 kept it. Each model had one generation with different settings. The case identifies a specific divergence, not an overall success rate.
Change one thing on the next run
- Keep the original preview, visual prompt, model, resolution, and duration.
- Define a checkpoint, such as “inside the pavilion by 5.1 seconds.”
- Change either the reference or the prompt, and check the quote before deciding to generate.
- Save the result and compare matching times, including failures.
Use the free camera templates to check the path first. Editing and previews use no AI credits. This guide provides a method and an existing case, not a new retest result.
